SHE_O.S.
SHE is an ongoing project in which solo artist Ming-Hwa Yeh revisits female dance icons of world dance history, in parallel to her own reflections as a dancer and choreographer growing up in Taiwan.
For this year’s iteration in THINK BAR, SHE_O.S. intersects with women whose dancing lives span different epochs. The title refers to non-sync sound formats in films, which informs the exploration of the discrepancies between image and sound, action and commentary. How much can dance be described, interpreted and passed on through language? How much is left “off-screen” and how are these dancing women framed and dubbed by the “voice over” of their times?
Mixing dance, recorded images and archival footage, SHE_O.S. mines the tensions and gaps, interventions and self-determinations in this vault of fragmented histories.
