17 Years Cicada
A practice for the exploration of “life,” using dance, sound, and visual scenes.
There is one special kind of cicada spend 17 years underground, before emerging above ground for a short adult stage of several weeks to a few months. Digging into the lifecycle of cicadas makes me think of human being. A fetus in the womb, in some saying says they experienced the future real life before they were born. Cicadas under the surface for most of the lifetime, time in here seems ironic to both of them. Suffocating and emerging are strong physically and emotionally experiences. I would like to use body, materials and space to create those, in non-traditional theater spaces and open the possibility to the viewers to experience it.
Apichaya (Piya) Wanthiang (B. 1987, Bangkok, Thailand) holds a BA from Sint-Lukas, Brussels and an MA in Fine Arts from Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB). Through a range of different mediums and approaches, she constructs environments in order to study how they influence our perceptions, behaviours and interactions. Piya has worked part time as Assistant Professor at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, and the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design (KMD) in Bergen. She has been on the board of LNM, the Norwegian Painters Association and is currently on the board of UKS, The Young Artists’ Society. Her work is amongst other parts of Oslo Kommunes Kunstsamling, Sogn og Fjordane Kunstmuseum and Kistefos Museum. She recently finalised an immersive wall-based installation for KORO at NMBU campus Ås, and ten permanent murals for Kulturetaten at the newly built Ruseløkka Skole.

「葉名樺的舞作異秀之處在於試圖穿越訓練有素的舞蹈平面，一個偏向90年代歐洲「作者舞蹈」的概念，Philippe Noisette所說的「不跳舞的舞作」；舞者在此不再是替編舞家而跳的演員，而是自己就是編舞者，一個主體化的過程，涉及的多是自我認同或生命體悟等相關議題，一種自傳體例的舞碼。」
